What is Semaglutide for Weight Loss Treatment?

Semaglutide is a once-weekly injectable prescription medication that can assist patients with long-term weight management.

This treatment works to facilitate weight loss in several ways, including:

  • Slowing stomach emptying
  • Reducing appetite
  • Increasing insulin release

Semaglutide is most effective as part of a comprehensive weight loss program that may include exercise, behavioral changes, calorie restriction, and diet changes as determined by a physician. Unlike many other weight loss medications, this medication can be used for long-term weight loss management.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much weight can I lose?

Multiple studies have demonstrated weight loss of 15-60% of total body weight.

What is the difference between Wegovy, Ozempic, and Semaglutide?

Branding is the only difference. Wegovy and Ozempic both come as an auto injector just as many insulin medications do, this can significantly increase the price of the medication. The generic Semaglutide can be obtained as a injectable medication that has to be self dosed and administered through insulin syringes. Some insurances will cover certain brands and some insurances won’t cover any of them. Rest assure we have a lost cost option should your insurance not cover your prescription.

What are the side effects?

Like all medications, Semaglutide can cause side effects. Most side effects are minor and go away as your body adjusts to the medication after a few doses. Gradual dose increases over time can minimize potential gastrointestinal side effects. The most common side effects are gastrointestinal. Clinical trial participants reported nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, gas, stomach pain, and heartburn. There was also an increased incidence of gallbladder disease. These side effects are common with all glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) agonists.

Side effects may include:

  • Nausea
  • Stomach pain
  • Dizziness
  • Diarrhea
  • Headache
  • Heartburn
  • Vomiting
  • Fatigue
  • Constipation
  • Upset stomach
  • Gas and/or bloating

Additional possible side effects that may cause serious side effects:

  • Inflammation of the pancreas
  • Gallbladder problems
  • Serious allergic reactions
  • Kidney problems
  • Increased heart rate
  • Increased risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)

Talk to your healthcare provider about potential side effects to expect.

Will I need to diet or exercise?

While you don’t have to diet or exercise specifically with this medication it is strongly encouraged for long lasting weight loss and aids in the ability to make more permanent life changes.  Adding a proper diet or exercise regimen will decrease the dose of the medication and possibly the length of treatment to see the desired results of clients.

What is included in the price?

The price of $199.00 includes 3 months of prescribed medication, an initial telemedicine consult with our Medical Provider, diet planning and a lab slip for blood work.  Plans automatically renew after 3 months, however it can be canceled at anytime should you decide this isn’t for you.  It also includes access to our portal and sms messaging with our Providers should you have any questions.

What is not included in the price?

Not included are your initial lab fees, or the medication.  Clients can decide whether they want to use their insurance for the lab fees and medication costs or pay out of pocket.  NeuDrip MD is contracted with a speciality pharmacy that will ship you the medication directly should you chose to pay out of pocket.

What is Semaglutide?

Semaglutide is the “generic name” for Ozempic, Rybelsus, and Wegovy.

How long can I be on Semaglutides?

Currently there are no restrictions on the duration of therapy.  You can discuss with our Providers when it is an appropriate time to transition off of the medication.  However, you should understand that by going off of the medication there will be increases in appetite and without proper lifestyle changes weight gain will be possible.
